Hernia Repair

What is a hernia?
A hernia is a weakness or tear in the wall of the abdomen. Men, women, and ever children can have a hernia. They can also be referred to as a rupture
.

How does a hernia happen?
There are two types of hernias, Acquired and congenital. Acquired hernias are caused by wear and tear over the years. Congenital hernias result from a weakness in your abdominal wall that is present at birth.

How do I know if I have a hernia?
It is easy to tell if you have a hernia. You may notice sharp/sudden pains when you lift cough in the groin or umbilical area, or strain during urination or movement. Or you may simply feel a bulge under your skin.

How is it treated?
You are first evaluated by your doctor to see how soon your hernia needs to be treated. There are several different options for hernia repair.

What does laparoscopic Hernia repair involve?
While in surgery your doctor will use a laparoscope (or tiny telescope) to see inside of your body. Laparoscopic hernia repair can speed up the recovery with less post-op pain and a quicker return to work.
