This is a new surgery performed by the doctors of Kunkel Surgical Group. VNUS vein closure deals with and helps to fix Venous Reflux Disease.
What is Venous Reflux Disease?
In everyone's legs, healthy veins contain valves that open and close to assist the return of blood back to the heart. Venous Reflux Disease develops when the valves that keep blood flowing out of the legs and back to the heart become damaged or diseased. These can lead to such problems as:
Varicose Veins
Pain
Swollen Limbs
Leg heaviness and fatigue
Skin changes and skin ulcers
If it is left untreated it will worsen over time.
How is Venous Closure performed?
The closure process is done on an outpatient basis. Using ultrasound the physicians will position the Closure catheter into the diseased vein, through a small opening in the skin. The tiny catheter delivers radio frequency into the vein wall. The diseased vein is closed and the blood is rerouted to a healthier veins. This procedure is less likely to be a burden the rest of your life versus having vein stripping surgery done.
